Wheaton senior Kelly Thornton was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Great Lakes Region First Team as a utility selection for her efforts this season at pitcher, second base and shortstop. Thornton is a three-time All-Region selection, earning First Team honors this season and in 2018 to go with Third Team recognition in 2017. hornton, the 2019 CCIW Player of the Year, is a four-time First Team All-CCIW honoree. Overall for the year, Thornton posted a .442 (57-for-129) batting average in 39 games, with a .500 on-base percentage and .674 slugging percentage. She hit four home runs this year, with 18 doubles. She scored 31 runs and tallied 37 RBI this year. Thornton tied Wheaton's single-season record for total bases with 87 this season and her 59 hits ranks second in the record books. Her 18 doubles in 2019 ranks second in Wheaton's single-season record book and her 37 RBI this year ranks fifth. Thornton graduates from Wheaton ranked in the top-five in 10 different offensive categories, including the all-time leader in hits (182) and total bases (299). Her 51 career doubles ranks second all-time in program history, she is third in career batting average (.408), third in home runs (18), third in RBI (116) and tied for third in runs scored (110).

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in partnership with Interim Chancellor Cheryl Green, recognized 45 Warhawks as 2018-19 Chancellor's Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday, May 7, at Fern Young Terrace in Young Auditorium.

Wheaton senior Kelly Thornton has been named the CCIW Softball Hitter of the Week, as announced by the conference office. Thornton posted a .476 (10-for-21) batting average last week with seven runs, three doubles, one home run and seven RBI as the Thunder went 4-2 against CCIW competition last week. She combined to go 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles and four RBI in a doubleheader sweep at North Park last Tuesday. She was 5-for-9 with three runs and one RBI in a doubleheader split against Carthage on Friday. Thornton hit her team-leading third home run of the season in a 6-3 win at Augustana on Saturday. Thornton has a .404 (42-for-104) batting average in 30 games this season. She leads the Thunder with 42 hits, a team-high 31 RBI, 12 doubles, is tied for the team lead with three home runs and also tied for the lead with 26 runs scored. She leads the CCIW in hits (42), RBI (31) and doubles (12) this season. Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time. Eight seniors on the 2018 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team were named to the 2019 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society by the NFF and the College Football Hall of Fame.

Concordia University, Nebraska, Vocal Jazz Choir will travel to Missouri, Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma for its performance tour May 5-12.

Concordia University, Nebraska's spring Jazzfest will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church in Seward. Additionally, Concordia's Handbell Choir and Handbell Choir II will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 in the Music Center's Recital Hall on Concordia's campus.

Augustana College announced more than 1,000 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2018-19 winter term. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.

Concordia University, Nebraska's Vocal Jazz Choir is set to perform their annual spring concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 at Neutral Grounds located on Seward's downtown square.

The University A Cappella Choir from Concordia University, Nebraska, will travel to Iowa, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri for its annual spring tour March 27 through April 1. The choir will conclude the tour with two local-area concerts on Sunday, April 7 at 3 p.m. at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln and at 7 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.

More than 360 students earned a spot on the fall 2018 dean's list for Central College. The honor is awarded to full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale while taking 12 or more graded credit hours for the semester.

Wheaton senior Kelly Thornton has been named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Volleyball Setter/Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office. Thornton helped lead Wheaton to a 4-2 record last week. The senior had a versatile effort last week, averaging 6.15 assists per game over 20 sets. She also contributed 2.3 kills, 2.55 digs and 0.65 service aces per game for the week. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Marymount Invitational last weekend, averaging 6.57 assists per game, 2.64 digs per game and 2.21 KPG for the four-match tournament.

Four Christmas at Concordia concerts brought more than 3,000 guests, including Seward County residents, residents from Nebraska and other states, Concordia alumni, students, and others to St. John Lutheran Church near campus. The concerts featured the Women's Cantamus Choir, Male Chorus, Concordia Handbell Choir, University Brass Ensemble, University A Cappella Choir and University Symphonic Band.
